General admission Aug. 20 street festival tickets will be available for $55  (advance, online sales), and $70 at the door the day of the event. A limited number of VIP street festival tickets, which include access to a VIP rooftop lounge and priority access to the venues, will be available for $125 in advance. A very limited number of three-day VIP Passes (which include access to all the venues on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, plus the tribute to Motley Crue and the street festival) will be available for $250.

Sunset Strip rockers MÖTLEY CRÜE are returning to their roots as the official honorees of the fourth annual Sunset Strip Music Festival! The Thursday, Aug. 18 award ceremony will celebrate the band’s influence on the music boulevard and kick off the three-day festival.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by the Sunset Strip Music Festival,” said drummer Tommy Lee.  “It means a lot to us that we are recognized for our contribution to this historic place.”

Mötley Crüe got their start on The Sunset Strip, as they performed many nights at the Whisky A Go-Go and The Roxy Theatre. The band also filmed their “Kickstart My Heart” video at the Whisky and for a while lived just up the street from the venue on Clark Street, making The Sunset Strip their official home.

“Bursting onto the scene in the early ’80s with a sound and style that blended punk, glam and heavy metal, Mötley Crüe helped re-establish The Sunset Strip as one of the top music destinations in the world,” says SSMF Executive Director Todd Steadman. “The band has forever left their mark on the music industry and The Sunset Strip, and we’re looking forward to celebrating their influence and bringing their spirited energy to this year’s tribute event.”

In addition to the tribute event, the City of West Hollywood will recognize Mötley Crüe with a special day in their honor.

West Hollywood Mayor John Heilman says, “The City of West Hollywood is happy to welcome the Sunset Strip Music Festival back for its fourth year. The event continues to grow each year, bringing new fans to the boulevard and showcasing The Sunset Strip’s vibrant and vital music scene. We are also happy to welcome back Mötley Crüe, as they return to their rock roots as the honorees for this year’s festival.”

This marks the FOURTH! installment of the award ceremony and the Sunset Strip Music Festival, which celebrates the music and icons that have made an impact on the legacy of The Strip. The event debuted in 2008 with the recognition of Lou Adler, Mario Maglieri and Elmer Valentine, founders of cornerstone Sunset Strip venues The Roxy Theatre, Rainbow Bar & Grill and Whisky A Go-Go. In 2009, Ozzy Osbourne received the “Elmer Valentine Award,” which was thusly named after the passing of original honoree Valentine. 2009 also marked the first closure of Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood for a music event, with Ozzy Osbourne, Korn and others performing outdoors at the street festival. The 2010 award went to Slash, who also headlined the SSMF’s outdoor stage along with the Smashing Pumpkins. Performers for 2011 will be announced soon.

Thirty loud years in, Mötley Crüe vocalist Vince Neil, guitarist Mick Mars, bassist Nikki Sixx and drummer Tommy Lee commandeer the rock pantheon as one of the most enduring musical ensembles in history. Similar to the 2010 SSMF, this year’s event will feature live performances in all six music venues (Cat Club, House of Blues Sunset Strip, Key Club, The Roxy Theatre, Viper Room and Whisky A Go-Go) on Thursday, Aug. 18, Friday, Aug. 19 and Saturday, Aug. 20. The three-day event will conclude with a street festival on Aug. 20, which includes a street closure from San Vicente Boulevard to Doheny Drive allowing for outdoor stages as well as live performances throughout the day and night in the music venues, a VIP rooftop lounge, beer gardens and interactive experiences on the boulevard.

We’re thrilled to announce that the fourth annual Sunset Strip Music Festival is set to take over the boulevard August 18, 19 and 20! Once again, the three-day fest will kick off on Thursday night with a tribute event celebrating a Sunset Strip icon (details to be announced soon).

In 2010, SSMF honored legendary guitarist Slash for his contributions to The Sunset Strip. Other previous honorees have included, rock icon Ozzy Osbourne (2009) and Lou Adler, Mario Maglieri and Elmer Valentine (2008) – all of whom helped create the vibrant music scene on The Sunset Strip. SSMF continues Friday and Saturday with dozens of musical artists of different genres performing at venues including The Roxy Theatre, Key Club, Viper Room, Whisky A Go-Go, Cat Club and House of Blues Sunset Strip.

SSMF 2011 will conclude on Saturday, Aug. 20 with an all-day street festival between San Vicente Boulevard and Doheny Drive. The street festival includes outdoor stages, live music in the venues, a beer garden, a VIP rooftop lounge, vendors and interactive experiences throughout the day and into the night.

The 2010 SSMF street festival attracted an enthusiastic crowd of 13,000 attendees, an increase of 3,000 from the previous year. The outdoor stages hosted performances from The Smashing Pumpkins, Slash (featuring Fergie and Myles Kennedy), Common, Kid Cudi, Travie McCoy, Semi Precious Weapons, Neon Trees, Steel Panther, Saint Motel and Big B, while the venues featured more than 70 bands throughout the day, including Oh No Not Stereo, Nikki & Rich, Vanaprasta, Billy Boy On Poison and more.

SSMF plans to announce additional details, including the 2011 honoree, ticket sale information and performing artists, in the coming weeks.

The multi-platinum, Grammy-winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will be at the House of Blues Sunset Strip to sign a custom, 10-foot-tall art guitar created in his honor as part of The Sunset Strip’s GuitarTown.

The signing takes place at 2 p.m. outside of the House of Blues.

Ozzy’s mega art guitar was designed by local photographer and artist Nic Adams, who has photographed bands from Rage Against The Machine and Beck to Run DMC and Iggy Pop throughout his career. The “Prince of Darkness” guitar uses photographic imagery and a modern design to celebrate Ozzy’s iconic status.

In September 2009, Ozzy was honored for his achievements and his impact to the legacy of The Sunset Strip at SSMF, where he also performed a headlining set at the first ever street festival on The Strip.  Los Angeles fans can catch him live on Feb. 1 when he will launches the second leg of his U.S. tour with SSMF 2010 honoree Slash at the Gibson Amphitheatre.

GuitarTown Sunset Strip is a public art project that features 26 10-foot tall fiberglass Gibson Les Paul model guitars strategically placed on the legendary Sunset Strip in West Hollywood. The oversized Gibson guitar sculptures were created by locally and nationally acclaimed visual artists and placed along the 1.6-mile Sunset Strip in front of the boulevard’s landmarks and businesses, including the Whisky A Go-Go, The Roxy Theatre and Sunset Marquis. GuitarTown is supported by the City of West Hollywood and the West Hollywood Marketing & Visitors Bureau.
